Veronika Kudermetova, the No. 18 seed from Russia, defeated Dalma Galfi, a player from Hungary,(6-2, 6-0), on Friday(September 2) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City to advance to the round of 16.
The No. 18 seed, Kudermetova, will next take on the No. 5 seed, Ons Jabeur of Tunisia. Shelby Rogers (31) was defeated by Jabeur (4-6, 6-4, 6-3).
Earlier in the competition, the Russian defeated Belgian Maryna Zanevska (6-2, 6-3) and Croat Donna Vekic (7-5, 6-3). Galfi, who is rated No. 91, defeated Harriet Dart and Nuria Parrizas Diaz of Spain in earlier rounds.
Polina Kudermetova is the only biological younger sister of the Russian sensational tennis pro. She happens to be 19 years and one interesting fact about her is that she plays tennis too at the amateur level.
