Minnesota Vikings' late substitute QB Joe Webb suffered a torrid NFL playoff as the Green Bay Packers won 24-10

In the opening moments of this NFL wild card playoff it seemed as if the Minnesota Vikings would overcome the pre-game withdrawal of quarterback Christian Ponder against the Green Bay Packers. Late replacement Joe Webb - who hadn't thrown a pass all season before this playoff - scurried for first downs and the Vikings took an early lead with a field goal.

Minnesota, however, were not to score again until the closing minutes of the game as the Packers closed down the QB and held Adrian Peterson to less than 100 yards - a significant feat in an incredible season for the running back.

The Packers emerged with a 24-10 victory and will now travel to San Francisco next Saturday for the NFC divisional series.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are coming into form at just the right time, helped by a number of players returning from injury.

John Kuhn scored two touchdowns, DuJuan Harris added another and Rodgers connected with an NFL playoff-record 10 receivers as he threw for 274 yards.

Defensively, the Packers finally managed to contain Peterson and were all over Vikings backup Webb, pressed into service by Ponder's elbow injury.

Peterson was held to 99 yards - an improvement after gaining 199 and 210 in the previous two games between these teams this season. The Vikings pulsating victory in the second of those regular season meetings had secured a surprising playoff berth for Minnesota.

Webb was sacked three times and off target all night. His only passing highlight was a 50-yard scoring pass to Michael Jenkins late in the fourth quarter.
