With a number of top stars leaving the promotion over the past year, NJPW fans will be thrilled to hear that Hiromu Takahashi has extended his stay with the company.
Kazuchika Okada recently announced he was leaving the company, joining stars like Jay White and Will Ospreay who have left New Japan in the past year. Things were looking bleak for the company, and the upcoming New Japan Cup is said to be crucial to seeing how they will react to the changes.
Luckily, one of the best wrestlers in the company has committed to staying with NJPW in the near future. 5-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi has signed a new deal, according to Tokyo Sport’s Yusuke Okamoto on social media.
“Hiromu Takahashi, whose contract was renewed today, quickly left the office without responding to any interviews from the waiting press (I was the only one). That’s all from the scene… Ah! wait a minute! This is LINE from Hiromu-chan! “I signed a contract ” It’s a contract! Hiromu Takahashi is under contract! That’s all from the scene!”
The news will come as a huge relief for NJPW, after losing so many top talents this year alone. Takahashi has carried the Junior Heavyweight division over the past few years, even with some significant time out of the ring due to a broken neck.
The “Ticking Time Bomb” recently lost the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship to El Desperado at Wrestle Kingdom 18, which could be the catalyst for his move up to the heavyweight division in the near future.
