Chapman broke the record, held by Bruce Sutter, for the most successive relief appearances, on 11 July 2014. Chapman agreed to a long-term agreement with the Cincinnati Reds, on 10 January 2010.

He made his Major League debut in the eighth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers on 31 August 2010.
